Some kids live in their footy boots. Others won't take off the basketball jersey, even for bed. If that sounds like your house, the birthday cake theme has probably already picked itself.
In Melbourne, "football" can mean two very different things depending on who you ask, so this guide covers both AFL footy and soccer, along with basketball. You'll find club cakes, player cakes and simple ball designs, each linked to the live product page so you can check flavours, prices and availability. The size guide and short-notice options are at the end.

Team, Player or Just the Ball?
Before you scroll through the designs, it helps to know which of these three your child will actually be happiest with.
A team cake is the obvious choice if they barrack for a club. Just know your crowd. A Magpies cake at a party full of Carlton kids is a brave move.
A player cake suits the kid who wears one number on their back at training and in the backyard. Players do switch clubs, though, so double-check which version your child wants. Ronaldo fans, for example, can choose Manchester United or Portugal styling.
A plain ball design is the safe bet for a mixed group of friends, or for younger kids who love playing more than watching. It also tends to be the cheaper option.
One more reason sporty kids and ice cream cakes go well together: after an hour of kick-to-kick or shooting hoops in the backyard, nobody wants a heavy, dense slice of cake. A cold slice of ice cream cake, on the other hand, disappears fast.

AFL Footy Ice Cream Cakes
1. AFL Club Footy Cakes
This is Melbourne, so footy comes first. We've got club designs for the Collingwood Magpies, a second Collingwood FC style, the Hawthorn Hawks and the Geelong Cats, all starting at A$79.95.
Barrack for a different club? A custom cake can be done in your team's colours, so nobody has to sit through a party under the wrong jumper.
Soccer Ice Cream Cakes

2. Premier League Club Cakes
Plenty of Melbourne kids stay up way too late watching English football. For Liverpool fans, there's the Liverpool FC Round Ice Cream Cake from A$79.95, or the 2 Tier Liverpool FC cake from A$179.95.
Manchester United supporters can go for the Man United Tall Cake (from A$119.95) or the 2 Tier Tall version (from A$179.95). We also make a royal blue Chelsea F.C. cake from A$119.95 and an Arsenal Soccer Ball Cake from A$69.95.
3. Lionel Messi Cakes
Messi fans have a few ways to go. The Lionel Messi Argentina Ice Cream Cake (from A$119.95) goes all in on the blue and white. The Messi Colours Soccer Cake keeps the same feel for less, from A$79.95.
For a showpiece, the Messi Styled Soccer Ball 2 Tier Tall Cake starts at A$179.95.
4. Cristiano Ronaldo Cakes
CR7 fans can pick between the Cristiano Ronaldo Portugal Special Edition and the Ronaldo Manchester United Edition soccer ball. Both start at A$79.95, so it really comes down to which Ronaldo era your child loves most.
5. FIFA World Cup 2026 Cake
The World Cup ran through June and July this year, and plenty of kids caught the bug for good. The FIFA 2026 Soccer World Cup Ice Cream Cake (from A$79.95) works for any fan, no matter which country they backed.
6. Classic Soccer Ball and Pitch Cakes
No club, no player, just the game. The Round Soccer Ball Cake starts at A$69.95, while the Dome Shaped Soccer Ball looks like an actual ball sitting on the table, from A$119.95.
If you'd rather have a field than a ball, try the Soccer Pitch Goal Cake or the Soccer Football Net Cake, both from A$69.95. Feeding a crowd? The 2 Tiered Soccer Football Cake starts at A$139.95.
7. Soccer Ball Cake With Your Team Logo
This one's a favourite idea for kids who play rather than watch. The Soccer Ball Cake with Your Team Logo (from A$69.95) can carry their junior club's badge, or an A-League side like Melbourne Victory or Melbourne City. It's a great pick for an end-of-season team party, too.
8. Soccer-Themed Number Cakes
Turning 8 or 9? The Number 8 Soccer Themed Cake and Number 9 Soccer Themed Cake put the age front and centre with football detailing. Both start at A$149.95.

Basketball Ice Cream Cakes

9. Classic Basketball Cakes
The orange ball with black seams is recognisable from across the room, which makes it an easy theme to build a party around. The Basketball Round Birthday Cake starts at A$69.95. If you like a cleaner look, the Simple Round Basketball Cake with no piping is the same price.
Want more height on the table? The Tall Basketball Cake starts at A$99.95 and the Dome Shaped Basketball Cake at A$119.95. For a really big crowd, there's a Double Tier Basketball Cake from A$189.95.
10. Basketball Cake With Your Team Logo or Colours
Plenty of Melbourne kids play in local basketball competitions, and many of them care more about their own team than any NBA side. The Basketball Round Cake with Your Team Logo/Colours (from A$69.95) lets you put their club on the cake. It works just as well for NBL fans who follow Melbourne United or the South East Melbourne Phoenix.
11. Steph Curry Golden State Warriors Cake
For the kid who practises three-pointers until it gets dark. The Golden State Warriors Steph Curry cake comes in blue and yellow team colours and starts at A$69.95.
12. LeBron James Lakers Cake
Purple and gold, and a name every young basketball fan knows. The LeBron James Lakers Basketball Cake starts at A$79.95.
13. Michael Jordan Cakes
Jordan retired well before most of today's kids were born, yet the red and black never goes out of style. Choose the Chicago Bulls Jordan Cake from A$69.95 or the Jordan #23 Birthday Cake from A$79.95. The #23 design is a fun one for a 23rd birthday as well.
14. Giannis Antetokounmpo Milwaukee Bucks Cake
Giannis fans tend to be loyal ones. The Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo Cake comes in Bucks green and starts at A$69.95.
15. Bonus: Netball Cake
Got a netballer in the family too? The Netball Cake has court-inspired detailing and starts at A$69.95. It's handy for joint birthdays when one sibling shoots hoops and the other plays wing attack.
Making the Party Match the Cake
A sports cake does a lot of the theming on its own, but a few small extras pull the whole day together.
• Use their age as a jersey number. It's a simple touch kids notice straight away. If you'd like it on the cake itself, our custom cake option is the way to go.
• Stick to team colours. Plates, balloons and streamers in two club colours look far more put-together than a rainbow mix.
• Plan the game before the cake. Get the kick-to-kick, mini hoop shootout or penalty competition done first, then bring the cake out once everyone's hot and ready for something cold.
• Swap lolly bags for medals. Cheap plastic medals or mini trophies go down a treat with sporty kids, and they last longer than the lollies.
• Think about the venue. Throwing the party at the local oval or a basketball court? Ice cream cakes need a freezer, so if the venue doesn't have one, time your pickup or delivery as close to cake time as you can.
